Former Reach editor on the push for more stories | Newsletter tips from Farrah Storr
And a round up of radio industry winners and losers from the latest quarter Rajar figures
Good morning and welcome to your Press Gazette Future of Media newsletter on Thursday 24 October, brought to you this week in association with Q5 - experts in organisational health.
Today we have a useful addition to the current debate around story counts and page views from a former Reach insider.
The UK's largest commercial online news publisher is currently urging reporters to complete more stories (typically between five and eight on a day when a reporter is at their desk).
In the world of reader-paid (rather than ad-driven) content, head of writer partnerships at Substack Farrah Storr has answered our questions about what makes people pay for content on the platform. She also revealed that she makes nearly as much from her “side-hustle” writing one article per week on Substack as she did editing one of the UK's biggest consumer magazine titles.
It shines light world where TV news channels are also radio stations (GB News) and newspapers are also radio stations and video-on-demand channels (Times Radio).
For all the digital disruption and competition from new podcasters and Youtubers, Radio 4 and 5 have posted healthy figures for the last quarter.
Check out Press Gazette’s website this afternoon (and tomorrow’s newsletter) for the list of finalists for the British Journalism Awards.
