Google AI Overviews zero-click impact revealed | Inside Radio News Hub
And major appointments for National World and Elite Traveler announced today
Welcome to your daily Press Gazette media briefing on Monday, 7 July.
We’ve got another Google AI Overviews story today following the news of a legal challenge to the CMA on Friday.
I delved into some new data shared with us by Similarweb showing zero-click searches at the biggest newsbrands globally and in the US in May 2024 versus May 2025.
The data includes the number of the top 100 search keywords for each brand that showed an AI Overview, indicating some publishers are more exposed to these changes than others.
Zero-click searches haven’t increased for all sites - but they have for many. Mail Online and Ouest France appear to be among the most affected so far, which certainly matches what the Mail’s director of SEO Carly Steven told a conference two months ago.
We also have an interview looking inside growing news agency Radio News Hub, which has gone from delivering content to seven stations ten years ago to 400 today after they spotted room in the market for a challenger to Sky’s IRN.
And we have the news of Reach audience director Martin Little moving to National World as chief publishing officer - a major first leadership appointment for the publisher since its takeover by Media Concierge in May.
